TIRE Stewardship BC
In British Columbia, Extended Producer Responsibility is a government strategy to place the responsibility for end-of-life product management on the producer and consumers and not the general taxpayer or local government. In March 2006, the BC Ministry of Environment added tires to the Recycling Regulation.
Tire Stewardship BC is the agency in BC that formed to help producers (retailers) fulfil their obligations and focus on the collection and recycling of tires. To operate a scrap tire program in BC the producers must have a ministry-approved stewardship plan.

The Tire Industry Association (TIA)
The Tire Industry Association (TIA), established in 1921, is international non-profit association representing all segments of the tire industry, including companies that manufacture, repair, recycle, sell, service or use new or retreaded tires, and also those suppliers or individuals who furnish equipment, material or services to the industry. TIA is the leading advocate as well as instructor in technical training of tire service technicians.

The mission of TIA is to promote tire safety through training and education, to act as the principal advocate in government affairs and to enhance the image and professionalism of the industry so that our member businesses may be more successful. TIA has members from all 50 states and around the globe.

Tire Stewardship Manitoba (TSM)
Tire Stewardship Manitoba (TSM) is a not-for-profit organization formed to manage the end of life tires recycling program on behalf of tire retailers in Manitoba.

To manage end-of-life tires generated in Manitoba, the retailer pays TSM a steward-fee for new tires sold in the province. 100% of fees collected go towards the operation of the end-of-life tire recycling program. Properly managed end-of-life tires reduce environmental risk and create jobs and economic development in Manitoba.
Manitoba’s end-of-life tire products are sold locally and internationally. End-of-life tires can be used to make flooring products for agricultural, recreational, and industrial use. They are used for artificial turf fields, rubberized asphalt, blast mats, geo-technical projects, energy recovery and other applications.

Product Stewardship Institute
The Product Stewardship Institute is a policy expert and consulting nonprofit that powers the emerging circular economy to ensure products are responsibly managed from design to end of life. PSI pioneered product stewardship in the United States and has led the movement for over two decades by convening diverse stakeholders to build extended producer responsibility (EPR) policies, programs, and laws.

PSI was founded by Scott Cassel, our CEO, who previously served as the director of waste policy and planning for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. In 2022, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) appointed Scott to its Marine Debris Foundation board of directors, where he works on policy, infrastructure development, and innovative technologies to clean up and prevent pollution of our waterways and oceans.

Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB)
Launched in 1997, the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB) continues to support and promote sustainable waste management. We are proud of the progress we have made with the support of our partners and residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Check out our history and accomplishments by clicking on the icons. You can also read our full story in the below timeline.

Building a greener province is a team effort. That’s why, in honour of our 25th Anniversary, MMSB decided to recognize 25 Champions for a Greener Future from across Newfoundland and Labrador—businesses and organizations making big strides towards protecting our environment. But 25 features simply can’t cover the multitude of enviro-conscious initiatives in our province—so we’re excited to make Champions for a Greener Future a regular feature!

Alberta Recycling Management Authority
Having launched in 1992, ARMA’s tire recycling program is the second-oldest in Canada. Since then, Albertans have stepped up and helped recycle more than 149.5 million tires, diverting hundreds of thousands of tonnes of tires from landfills.
In this program, recycled tires don’t go far once they’re dropped off at a collection site, as they’re processed right here in Alberta.
ARMA-approved processors turn these recycled tires into a tire-derived aggregate (TDA), rubber crumb for top dressing in sports fields, or used as feedstock for manufactured products.

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA)
Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) is Australia’s tyre product steward. It was established in 2014 to implement the National Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (the Scheme) and promote the development of viable markets for end-of-life tyres in Australia.
The Scheme is funded by several tyre and auto brands, and over 1,700 tyre retailers, tyre collectors and recyclers, fleet operators, manufacturers, and local councils participating in and accredited with the Scheme.
Together, we work all along the tyre recovery supply chain to minimise waste and increase value for government, industry, businesses and consumers:
-
Transforming a waste product into a useful commodity.
-
Creating new markets, technologies and employment opportunities.
-
Reducing the environmental and social harm caused by burying, illegally dumping and sending used tyres to landfill.
